Devilled Sausages Recipe

The ultimate comfort food is devilled sausages. We never have them between October and April, but they are on our menu almost every week during the cooler months.

It’s hard to resist a delicious sauce topped with sausages and mashed potato on a cold night!

It wasn’t that long ago when I made devilled sausages from a package. It was all I knew! Like everything else, I knew that there was a homemade version. After searching and trying out a few recipes, I found one we loved!

Ingredients

  • 1kg Fat sausages
  • 3 green apples, peeled, cored and sliced.
  • 1 onion, thinly sliced
  • 3 Cloves garlic, diced
  • 1 400g can crushed tomatoes
  • 1/4 cup Tomato Sauce
  • 1/4 cup barbecue sauce
  • 3 tbsp Malt vinegar
  • 2 tbsp Brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp Olive oil

Step 1

Boil sausages until cooked, drain and set to one side

Step 2

In a saute pan, fry onions, garlic and apples with a dash of olive oil.

Step 3

Chop sausages into bite-size pieces and add to saute pan.

Step 4

In a separate bowl, combine sauces, vinegar, sugar and tomatoes, and add to the saute pan.

Step 5

Simmer on low for 20 mins, stirring occasionally.

Step 6

Serve with mash and veggies.

One of our family favourites. Full of flavour, easy as to do and great with mash!!

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup barbecue sauce
